The Philadelphia Phillies may have lost more than a game at home Thursday night. Major League Baseball’s best team fell to the Miami Marlins 7-4 but suffered an even more painful ninth inning when stars Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber left with injuries.

Harper, elected to his eighth All-Star Game earlier in the day as the National League’s starting first baseman, limped off the field with a hamstring injury after grounding out on the final play of the game, while Schwarber left in the top of the inning due to left groin tightness.

“Felt my lower hammy just a little bit,” Harper said. “We’re going to get an image tomorrow just to see what that looks like and see how I feel and go from there.

“I never felt anything like this before. It hurts.”

Harper’s possible absence would be a huge blow to the Phillies. He is batting .303 with 20 home runs and 58 RBIs after extending his hitting streak to 12 games with an RBI double in the first inning Thursday.

Schwarber was playing in the field for just the third time this season. He felt tightness in his groin while making a throw from left field in the top of the ninth.

“He just felt his groin tighten up,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson said. “So I got him out immediately, as soon as I knew about it. … I have no other news about that until tomorrow.”

Said Schwarber: “Personally, I don’t think it’s going to be super serious. See how we come in tomorrow and see how it feels.”

Schwarber, usually the team’s designated hitter, is hitting .250 with 17 home runs and 49 RBIs.

“You’re always concerned when you have to take a guy out of the game,” said Thomson.

“He just felt his hamstring grab coming down the line,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson said. “Don’t know anything more than that, so we’ll just have to wait until tomorrow to check him out.”

suffered a hamstring injury while grounding out on the final play of the game, while Kyle Schwarber – making just his third start in left field this season – suffered a groin injury an inning earlier.
