Simone Biles was nearly flawless to lift Team USA to gold for the fourth time in women’s gymnastics, capping a dramatic rebound from disappointment at the Tokyo Games.

Biles, who started with a 14.9 on the vault, set the record for most Olympic medals by an American gymnast. She punctuated the team performance with the final floor routine of the night before a capacity crowd that watched from their feet as chants of “USA, USA” rained through the Paris arena.

Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera did more than play supporting roles on Tuesday. Lee, who won the all-around title in Tokyo, nailed her balance beam routine with a 14.6.

Italy took the silver, while Brazil won the bronze.

Biles, 27, claimed a fifth gold medal in her third career Olympics. Her eight total medals broke a tie with Shannon Miller. Biles withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics team final due to “twisties.”
