St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Michael McGreevy was promoted from Triple-A Memphis to make his major league debut against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday.
The Cardinals also placed right-hander Lance Lynn on the 15-day injured list with right knee inflammation.
McGreevy, 24, will become the eighth player (sixth pitcher) to make his MLB debut for St. Louis this season.
McGreevy, the 18th overall pick in 2021, is 5-7 with a 4.45 ERA in 20 starts at Memphis this season. In his last three starts, he allowed five runs in 17 1/3 innings — with six scoreless innings in his last outing. He is ranked by MLB Pipeline as St. Louis’ No. 15 prospect.
Lynn, 37, picked up the win against the Rangers on Tuesday after allowing one run on three hits in five innings in an 8-1 victory. He is 6-4 with a 4.06 ERA in 21 starts this season, and 142-99 with a 3.75 ERA in 362 career games (338 starts) with six teams.
Also, the Cardinals recalled Ryan Loutos from Memphis, optioned fellow right-hander Chris Roycroft to the Triple-A club and designated righty Jacob Bosiokovic for assignment.
Loutos, 25, has allowed two hits over 1 1/3 scoreless innings in two relief appearances this season with St. Louis.
