Friday 24th January 2025 marks International Day of Education, a global occasion established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018 to underscore the pivotal role of education in fostering peace and sustainable development.
At Regent College London (RCL), we deeply value education’s transformative power, a principle upheld by our Co-Founders, Dr Selva and Tharshiny Pankaj. Following our 25th anniversary celebrations in 2024, we take immense pride in the positive impact we have made throughout RCL’s history by offering inclusive, flexible education that empowers students from diverse backgrounds.
Across our four Schools – Business, Law, Engineering and Computing, and Health and Sports Science – we provide a range of qualifications, including foundation year routes, Higher National Diplomas (HNDs), Modular Acceleration Programmes (MAP), bachelor’s degrees, top-up degrees and master’s degrees.
The theme for International Day of Education 2025, “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation”, strongly aligns with RCL’s mission to embrace technological advancements while empowering students with skills for the future.Â
Driving innovation through TEDLab
A cornerstone of this mission is TEDLab, a state-of-the-art immersive learning space equipped with the first LED VR power wall in academia.
Matching the technology used by leading global enterprises, this 18-square-metre power wall features tracking cameras, VR headsets and additional equipment to simulate environments and replicate real-world experiences. This investment ensures our students gain the digital skills demanded by employers in an ever-evolving job market.Â
Reflecting on the impact of TEDLab, Ilias Oraifige, Dean of Engineering and Computing at RCL, states:
“TEDLab equips students with cutting-edge digital skills and the opportunity to gain added value employer-led project and placement experiences during their programme of study. These initiatives ensure students gain practical experience and directly transferable skills, preparing them for the labour market and meeting employer demands in an increasingly competitive and dynamic professional environment.”
Empowering students to embrace technology
In today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world, it is essential for students to follow RCL’s lead and embrace emerging technologies. Adapting to advancements in fields like AI, virtual reality and automation is not just about keeping up with trends – it is about securing their place in a rapidly evolving workforce. By actively engaging with tools and platforms like TEDLab, students develop the confidence and capability to excel in their chosen industries.Â
Our students echo this sentiment. Estera, a current BEng (Hons) Software Engineering student, shares:
“I love studying at RCL because they are constantly optimising and keeping up with the times when it comes to education, staff expertise and modern facilities.”
A commitment to the future of education
This International Day of Education, Regent College London reaffirms its commitment to equipping students with the skills, knowledge and mindset they need to thrive in a technology-driven world.Â
