The Boston Red Sox placed left-hander Cam Booser on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday because of left elbow inflammation.
In other moves, the Red Sox activated outfielder Jarren Duran, recalled left-hander Brennan Bernardino from Triple-A Worcester, optioned second baseman Enmanuel Valdez to Worcester, and signed right-hander Brad Keller to a minor league contract.
Booser last pitched Tuesday, when he faced three batters without recording an out in Boston’s 9-4 home win over the Texas Rangers.
Booser, 32, made his major league debut on April 19 and is 2-2 with one save and a 3.00 ERA in 42 innings over 41 relief appearances.
Boston suspended All-Star Duran for two games without pay on Monday after he was heard using a homophobic slur toward a fan during Sunday’s game.
The Red Sox said they issued the suspension “in consultation with Major League Baseball,” and Duran’s salary from the two suspended games will be donated to PFLAG (Federation of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays).
Keller, 29, is 0-1 with one save and a 5.66 ERA in 20 2/3 innings over 10 relief appearances since signing with the Red Sox as a free agent on May 26.
Bernardino, 32, is 4-3 with a 3.83 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 40 innings over 43 games (two starts) this season.
Valdez, 25, is batting .224 (38-for-170) with six home runs and 27 RBIs in 59 games with the Red Sox this season.
