Weeks after reports linked Marco Reus with the Los Angeles Galaxy, the German midfielder finally signed a deal with the club, ESPN reported Wednesday night.

According to the report, the Galaxy likely will announce the move on Thursday.

Reus, 35, becomes the latest veteran international star to join an MLS squad in the past few years, a list that includes Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez and Los Angeles FC’s Olivier Giroud.

Reus played for German sides Rot Weiss Ahlen (2007-09) and Borussia Monchengladbach (2009-12) before joining his hometown club, Borussia Dortmund, in 2012. He remained with Dortmund through this spring, making 294 appearances and scoring 120 goals.

He helped Borussia Dortmund win Germany’s top cup competition, the DFB-Pokal, in 2017 and 2021, and he was part of sides that captured the German Supercup in 2013, 2014 and 2019.

Reus has played in 48 games for the German national team, logging 15 goals. After an injury kept him from participating in Germany’s World Cup-winning side in 2014, he appeared at the 2018 World Cup. He also was part of his country’s side at the 2012 European Championships.

The Galaxy (14-5-7, 49 points) sit in first place in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference, two points ahead of LAFC. After losing 3-1 to the Seattle Sounders in a round-of-32 match in the Leagues Cup on Aug. 8, the Galaxy return to MLS regular-season play with a home match against Atlanta United on Aug. 24.
