Regent College London (RCL) is delighted to announce that Lord James Wharton, former Member of Parliament and Chair of the Office for Students (OfS), has been appointed Senior Advisor to Dr Selva Pankaj, RCL’s CEO/Accountable Officer.
As a member of the Advisory Board, Lord Wharton will play a key role in further strengthening RCL’s Leadership team as the College continues its growth and development in the higher education sector.
A dedicated advocate for higher education
From 2010 to 2017, Lord Wharton served as the MP for his home constituency of Stockton South. During his time in office, he played a significant role in higher education policy.
Lord Wharton was the Minister for the Northern Powerhouse strategy, which was announced in 2016 and described as the UK Government’s vision for a super-connected, globally competitive northern economy. Additionally, he has held various positions related to education and infrastructure.
Lord Wharton is currently serving as a member of the House of Lords, where he has been a dedicated advocate for improving and widening access to education.
Ensuring a prosperous future for RCL
As Senior Advisor at RCL, Lord Wharton will support the CEO/Accountable Officer with strategic advice, particularly on policy, governance and forging a dynamic long-term vision for the College.
He will work closely with the Leadership team to expand the College’s reach and ensure it continues to provide a high-quality academic experience for its students.
Lord Wharton’s appointment reflects the institution’s commitment to fortifying its Leadership team and ensuring a prosperous future for the College.
His expertise in education, government policy and public service is expected to contribute significantly to RCL’s ambitions.
