Every year, World Mental Health Day is celebrated on 10th October as a way for teams, organisations and communities to come together, talk about mental health and break down stigmas.
Here at Regent College London (RCL), the mental and physical wellbeing of our students is paramount. To mark World Mental Health Day, our dedicated Student Support team hosted a Tea & Talk session at our Holborn campus.
Between the demands of their studies, work and personal commitments, we understand that life can be stressful for our students. This lunchtime session was specially designed to encourage the RCL community to reflect on their wellbeing and explore different ways to take care of themselves.
Activities to boost wellbeing
Events such as these are important opportunities for RCL to reaffirm our commitment to supporting student wellbeing and ensure our community is aware of all the helpful resources available to them – at the College and beyond!
We were delighted to see very a strong turnout. Emma Buhtina, our Head of Student Support, kicked things off by organising the students into three groups so they could each perform a different activity before alternating.
One group wrote kind notes to themselves and displayed them on a whiteboard for all to see. Another group spun a wheel to receive a prompt to boost their mental health, which could include anything from taking a brisk afternoon walk to performing 20 push-ups on the spot! Meanwhile, the third group relaxed and enjoyed refreshments together.
The students were very enthusiastic and eager to have important conversations about mental health. We spoke to some of them after the session to hear their thoughts.
“Today was a very fruitful session for everyone,” said Prachi, a Health & Sports Science student. “We made new friends, played so many good games and learned a lot.”
Looking back on the Talk & Tea session, Emma Buhtina said:
“I’m so happy the event was a success. While the activities were designed to be fun, they also served a very important purpose. Nurturing your wellbeing is a must in today’s busy world, especially if you want to achieve academic excellence. Following our World Mental Health Day celebration, I am confident that our students will continue to keep this top of mind.”
Student support at Regent College London
RCL provides students with comprehensive support every step of the way. We were very proud to see these services receive a 92% satisfaction rate in the 2024 National Student Survey.
This support includes academic advice, study skills, career guidance, mental health support and financial guidance (including student loan and budgeting assistance).
In addition, each student is assigned a dedicated Student Success Officer (SSO) and Academic Support Officer (ASO) for a smooth educational journey.
We look forward to seeing RCL’s student events continue to go from strength to strength.
