The Sing for Happiness project involved more than three hundred people singing in choir sessions “in an experiment to discover if singing can improve mental health and wellbeing.” Participants completed mood surveys and wellbeing questionnaires before and after the sessions. “The research found the mood of participants immediately improved by singing together and they felt calmer, more energized and happier.” Many had little or no experience, but as one said, “I’ve had no singing experience in a choir so it can be quite daunting at first when you worry about not being able to hit certain notes, but once you put that aside and have that shared experience you feel the difference straight away.”
